An immersive and participatory workshop

Accompanied by a facilitator, participants—in groups of 6 to 8 people—collectively build a mural using illustrated cards representing species, ecosystems, human pressures, and local solutions.

By connecting these cards, they identify the interactions and dependencies of living organisms and become aware of the impacts of human activities on natural environments.

The workshop lasts 3 to 4 hours and takes place in several stages:

  • Discovery of Polynesian ecosystems (from mountain ridges and scrubland to the open sea);

  • Analysis of the pressures and causes of biodiversity erosion;

  • Collective reflection on possible solutions and taking action;

  • Final creation of an illustrated mural and sharing of a convivial moment.

Objectives

The French Polynesia Biodiversity Fresk has three main objectives:

  1. To raise awareness of Polynesian biodiversity and its specific challenges through a concrete and local approach;

  2. To promote collective understanding of the links between human activities and nature through participatory and visual education;

  3. Encourage action by inspiring changes in individual and collective behavior to preserve ecosystems.

A tool serving the region

The fresk is based on solid scientific foundations (OFB, IPBES, local researchers) and aims to mobilize Polynesian society around the protection of living organisms.

It allows everyone—citizens, associations, businesses, and institutions—to reconnect with nature and actively participate in the ecological transition of the fenua.
