A large native tree, the Mara is very present in Tahitian legends. Its wood was used in the making of musical instruments, handles, paddles, war canoes, etc. Its bark, rich in tanning substances, was also used in traditional medicine. It will repopulate the forest and rebuild the canopy. It will also be planted in an agroforestry zone to serve as shade trees for fruit trees.
