  • Native to Southeast Asia, the bancoulier was introduced during Polynesian migrations and became naturalized in French Polynesia. A large tree with white inflorescences and globular fruits, it is one of the most traditionally used trees. Useful, medicinal, cosmetic, food, ornamental, its seeds were also used for lighting and to produce ink for tattoos.
